Latest Festival Additions

The Green Phoenix Festival and an art exhibition at the Exeter Climate Forum are amongst the latest additions to the “If Trees Could Talk Devon” Festival. Ecologist and storyteller Peter Yeo is also leading “Storying the Trees of Crediton” – a  guided walk meeting a variety of tree-beings and hearing related stories from literature on Saturday 11 July.

The “If Trees Could Talk Devon” is a sort-of ‘crowd-sourced’ Festival of creative, ecological, and wellbeing events happening around the county – in association with an international art Biennale based in the Philippines.

Coordinator Catherine West, of Significant Seams CIC, based in Mid-Devon, says, “Devon is rich with inspiring artists, academics, and ecologists, and many people are a non-professional combination of all three. Our environment and communities nurture it. Being part of this biennale seemed an obvious fit – and means to draw many grassroots local projects together, and perhaps into a bit of limelight. The recent addition of further tree-trunk like partners like the Exeter Phoenix, and the Exeter Climate Forum, reflect the deep importance of fine mycorrihzal threads – small community organisations and action groups. Likewise, the support of Libraries Unlimited – as a rooted institution, emboldened us to take on coordinating this ambitious project. We need creative diversity in what is available to make a richly healthy community.”

The programme is available online and a ‘showcase’ printed programme can be found #inthewild around Devon. It remains open for booking of listings: these can be environmental film screenings, wellbeing walks, art exhibitions with a nature aspect and craft festivals with an emphasis on natural materials.
