Empowering Creativity Opens for Booking: A youth summer programme

Significant Seams, The Turning Tides Project, Devon Art Tuition, and Sustainable Crediton’s Community Larder group are pleased to be co-presenting an exciting programme of summer activities and sharing of food over 13 dates in the school summer holidays for 11-16 year olds. Significant Seams has secured funding from Devon County Council to enable young people entitled to Free School Meals to attend for free.

The programme is part of the Devon County Council Holiday Activity & Food Programme (#HAFDevon2024), supported by GWR, Hodemedod Foods, and Awards for All. (Additional support is welcome to ease real pressures on the costs of delivery. The core delivery budget has had no increases for the cost of inflation in two years.)

On each of the day of the programme, except 30 August, activities will include:

  • outdoor cooking and food preparation,
  • art-making with artists and Bronze Arts Award candidates who are sharing a skill,
  • music and song making,
  • outdoor exploring/discovery activities.

Activities will include flower pounding, rock painting, paper and mask making, puppet making, fabric decorating, MAKING THE ARTICULATED WINGS OF A GIANT DRAGON SCULPTURE for an outdoor Amphitheatre, and 3-d decorated letters. Participants will meet at the Turning Tides Tea Rooms at Crediton Train Station and walk to Four for All, the Turning Tides Woodland Community Garden overlooking the train lines accessed from Four Mills Lane.

It all sounds a bit mysterious doesn’t it? But dragons and adventures in the woods are meant to be! It will be amazing fun. Come join us! Details of our events day by day are detailed here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/cc/youth-programmes-226449

On 30 August we will have a group trip via GWR to Exeter Northcott’s Barnfield theatre in Exeter. GWR are providing us free travel, and confident travel training tips. We will then have Pizza as part of the performance of Pizza Wars at Barnfield Theatre, and return to Crediton by train together.

Across our programme, once introduced most activities will stay available to participants through the following days of the programme.  Booking is essential. We have 15 FREE places available each day for 11-16 year olds entitled to free school meals. Additional spaces are chargeable on a not for profit basis (and individuals can donate to enable further free spaces at £35 each). Any surpluses will support future initiatives for youth, health and wellbeing.
