Craftivism Prompt and Contexts Workshops Now available

Significant Seams have put together a new ‘Craftivism Prompt’ worksheet associated to International Women’s Day, along with a facilitators notes sheet. This is aligned to the Devon County Council Family Hub strategy and plan to increase – in age appropriate ways – learning about violence against women and girls, coercive control, and support development of healthier relationships.

Catherine West says,” We have created two #craftivism booklets for #internationalwomensday . One prompts action, the other provides contexts for reflection. The content in the second is sobering and was devised with facilitators and adults who work with young people in mind.  ‘Holding space’ to enable meaningful change involves facing the little discussed, in real time, with little warning, whilst also keeping hope and positivity vibrant and real. We recommend our CHIME training for facilitators to prepare front line workers for this emotional responsibility. In the meantime, we encourage leaning in to mutual support and care. Change is powerful, and possible. Often the biggest obstacle is shared knowledge.”

We are offering the worksheet for free with the invitation to buy notebook/sketchbooks from our Changing Roles of Women Community Quilts series (£4 each). The sketchbooks can be sent with letters/artworks to women of note or politicians – or kept. We have a limited number of these sketchbooks remaining and will be taking orders on a first come, first served basis.

If groups would like to have a chance to examine or interact with one of the original quilts and stories of some of the patches, and/or you would like a facilitated art session, we can provide a separate quote for an in-person event based on what would suit your needs.

Catherine West, our founder, is one of the selected contributors to the 2014 anthology, “Craftivism: the Art & Craft of Activism,” editted by the Godmother of Craftivism Betsy Greer, and amongst the interviewees in the (current) Inaugural Series of the international podcast, Art Against Empire, by Ian Danger Capstick.
