Call for Listings: “If Trees Could Talk Devon” Festival – Satellite of an International Art Biennial

Over the last few years, artists across Devon in SW England have been listening to the trees, and engaging children and communities of all ages in conversations with our natural landscape. Significant Seams CIC is pleased to announce that it is partnering with the “If Trees Could Talk International Art Biennial” to make the county a satellite venue, showcasing these artworks and the wide way the artistic community take inspiration from and care for, our landscape and future wellbeing.

Starting now, “If Trees Could Talk Devon” aims to develop a metaphorical mycorrhizal network amongst the creatives and communities working for wellbeing and community outcomes, exploring stories and perspectives that will make our county a better place for future generations. The Festival will run from 23 May to 31 July

Significant Seams are now inviting bookings for listings for the programme of this https://significantseams.org.uk/what-we-do/if-trees-could-talk-devon-international-art-biennial

Towns, schools, libraries, museums, clubs, and of course artists, are invited to add listings of:

  • public artworks
  • ticketed events that resonate with the theme.
  • Artists are also invited to submit a photo and profile to a ‘showcase’ to highlight the synergies between their work and the theme.

The submissions deadline is Friday 17 April.

Anyone can involved in supporting the work by making a contribution or volunteering to lead an activity to help fundraise for the Festival and our work. To date we anticipate some such events to include a session with the Crediton area Tree Warden around an Ancient Ash Tree, a session on Dowsing (to connect with the spirit of the Trees), and schoolchildren leading the making of fairy villages from materials foraged in woodland.

We hope to inspire a wide variety of events. These could be sessions: drawing trees, En Plein Air painting, Eco printing, making drawing charcoal from willow, nature writing, trying out nature photography, learning tree identification (perhaps with bark and leaf rubbings), bird watching/listening gatherings.

We look forward to hearing what ideas trees have inspired in people!

The Festival is founded by the Tumba-Tumba Children’s Museum of Philippine Art and The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development in the Philippine. “If Trees Could Talk Devon” is substantially enabled by Significant Seams voluntary activity, support from Devon Community Foundation and Crediton Town Council, as well as the communities involved in making public artworks that will be showcased .
