A Varied Programme of Youth Holiday Activities
A wide range of activities for young people are on offer during the summer holidays in and around Crediton. We are working with a growing network of partners to make these more visible and easy for young people and their adults to find and access.
We hope a number of young people might decide to use their summer activities to ‘fun’ towards a national qualification: Bronze Arts Award. The Award provides a creative and very flexible framework for documenting and reflecting on creative and cultural activities and developing healthy habits for processing our world.
Additionally, we are keen to support young people and families at risk of holiday hunger.
Here’s our Round-Up:
On 5 August we will kick off our summer season with a Care Emoji workshop with the Heart Project delivered at the Crediton Arts Centre (next to Hayward’s School and across form Holy Cross Church). All Heart Project activities are open to all ages 5+ (5-10 year olds need to be accompanied by an adult) and are FREE to under 16 year olds. Over 16s cost £5. Book and see the full programme HERE.
From Tuesday to Friday 8-11 August, the Crediton Youth Club at Old Landscore School will be running a special programme for our Holiday Activity & Food Programme. In addition to a normal array of youth club activities on offer there will be the making of a concertina sketchbook led by an artist, which will be used to capture observations from nature and record individual reflections on what brings us joy and wellbeing. Not only are spaces free for any 11-16 year old entitled to Free School meals, they can also book a friend for free. Book HERE.
From Tuesday to Friday 15-18 August, we will re-imagine, unmake and upstyle clothes with abandon. Donated clothes will be our artistic medium. We will have access to sewing machines, a wide variety of embellishments, and fabric paint and printing tools. We will also have the option of collage in the spirit of remaking! Not only are spaces free for any 11-16 year old entitled to Free School meals, they can also book a friend for free. Book HERE.
Across both weeks of this programme cooking with Jocelyn will also be on offer and a hot meal is included. Not only are spaces free for any 11-16 year old entitled to Free School meals, they can also book a friend for free. Otherwise spots are heavily subsidised and just £10/day.
Our friends over at Crediton Library are again running a reading challenge with associated puzzles, quizzes and games for 5-11 year olds. Crediton library also has a Lego club, a teen book club for discussing books (and sharing treats!) AND hosts the Sustainable Crediton Community Larder. Food is added five days a week and is free!
Currently the food at the Community Larder includes any surplus harvested from the Sustainable Crediton Community Allotment at Barnfield. Sustainable Crediton now has Wednesday evening and Saturday sessions for anyone to join the activities at the shared allotment: join them 1-4pm on Saturdays and/or 6-8 pm on Wedensdays for involvement in growing food.
In addition to these free and subsidised activities, a variety of other mid-Devon options for fab cultural engagement include:
- Mid-Devon Artist Emmy Lou offers fine art workshops, designed with youth in mind in Crediton, Morchard Bishop and Winkleigh
- Sandford Wild:Adventure with Nick Couzens is back for a summer edition for primary aged kids from 24/7 – 3/8.
- Crediton Youth Theatre’s Autumn Term is open for booking now via the Crediton Arts Centre.
If you are aware an opportunity we’ve missed do be in touch, we’d be happy to add them to this round-up for summer 2023!
