The Trolley Project (2015)

Artist and Teacher Sheila Hallissey led the 2015 ‘Trolley Project.’ We worked across our programme groups – including a homeschool network, a primary school, our Sew N Tell ESL group, and our Socially Supportive Sewing group – and Eat or Heat, a local Food Bank and activism group, to raise awareness of local food poverty issues as well as packaging waste. We wove a grocery store trolley using ‘fabric strips’ from plastic shopping bags and filled it with soft sculpture food stuffs, made from a combination of plastics and waste fabrics. Produce crates collected as rubbish after a day at the Walthamstow Market were also integrated.

The Trolley featured in the 2015 E17 Art Trail and then was installed in a local school for the 2015-2016 school year.
