The Creative Team for our week long programme…
Significant Seams are pleased to introduce the Creative Team leading an exciting week long summer programme focused on Natural Dyes and the Ecology of Craft for Waltham Forest residents 11-19 years old.
Lucille Junkere, Former Artist in residence at the William Morris Gallery and a recipient of Winston Churchill Travel Fellowship, is an accomplished Indigo dyer with particular expertise around Yoruba (associated with modern day Nigeria) traditional techniques in indigo dyeing. This rich tradition is under documented compared with Japanese Shibori techniques, but rich with traditional symbolisms, techniques and skills. Lucille will lead participants in indigo dyeing and exploring and understanding the Yoruba Indigo traditions during one day of the programme.
Helen Porter, of Paekakariki Press and an accomplished natural paper artisan, will lead participants in making natural papers and journals to record their samples and log inspirations.
Catherine West, founder of Significant Seams and textile artist, will introduce participants to the almost instanteous artistic potential of raw natural materials with wool carding, handspinning, flower pounding and solar dyeing.
The 5 day programme (10am – 3pm: 14-18 August 2017) is FREE for Waltham Forest residents between 11- and 19 years old, but places are limited. BOOK NOW to avoid disappointment. The programme is made possible by the London Borough of Waltham Forest Holiday Activity Programme.
