A huge thank you to everyone who responded to our appeal for support for our Sew & Tell ESL programme. We are delighted to announce we have secured some initial funding to keep the programme going for another term while we continue to fundraise for the programme’s future. We’d welcome further support!
We also have secured some further support for Supportive Social Stitching. In association with both of these programmes, Significant Seams is pleased to now be recruiting to a range of part-time paid roles for an initial 12 week period in association with International Women’s Day preparations and our 5th! annual Community quilt:
- an occupational therapist or experienced support worker with sewing and craft skills (84 hours)
- crèche worker (36 hours)
- communications officer (40 hours)
We are accepting applications for all of these roles at 131 Wood Street, Walthamstow in the form of a letter of application and CV OR letter of proposal from organizations interested in contracting to support project delivery. Hard copy applications are requested to simplify administration for our small team.

We seek an occupational therapist or experienced support worker with sewing and craft skills to support and develop our Supportive Sewing Circle, also known as Neighbourly Knit & Stitch, and related programmes. Applicants will also directly support and liaise with our clients and community members who participate in these programmes, help develop our evaluation and monitoring and processes, and cover a range of customer facing tasks. Applicants should also have strong administration skills and computer skills would be a plus. Availability on Thursday afternoons is essential. Please apply by 15 January 2014.
Significant Seams is pleased to now be recruiting a crèche worker to look after toddlers on Tuesdays from 10 -1 whilst their moms attend Sew and Tell ESL English lessons. The role is paid – at this time for 12 weeks – during school term time. Appropriate qualifications and DBS are required. Please apply by 15 January 2014.
Significant Seams is pleased to be in receipt of a national grant award for our Sew & Tell ESL programme that seeks to make a model of our distinctive programme. To support this, it provides us funding for 40+ hours of support from an experienced communications specialist to develop and place stories in a variety of print media in winter/spring 2015. A strong association to V-day and International Women’s Day is anticipated. Please apply by 15 January 2014 with a covering letter, including rate requirements and highlighting relevant experience, and a CV delivered to 131 Wood Street.
