New: Ecology of Craft Programme

Significant Seams is delighted to announce a new programme called the Ecology of Craft. It provokes scientific curiosity and ecological thinking, using some exceptionally fun forms of craft.

We’ve developed this programme from successful activities with local schools as well as older adults.

Our programme features a range of workshops, from 20 minute lessons to week long programmes. This summer, as mother nature provides us a bounty of materials, we will be offering a magical sort of flower transfer at Walthamstow Garden Party. During school holidays The London Borough of Waltham Forest have commissioned us to offer 40 lucky young people aged 11-16 a free week long programme.

Space on this programme is limited. Book online NOW.

Attendees at the workshop will take part in activities including:

  • Natural dyeing
  • Textile based journaling
  • Creating natural dyes
  • Flower and plant pounding
  • Mordanting
  • Branch weaving

While extracting natural dyes from the world around us, participants develop their scientific understanding of plants, ecology and chemical reactions through hands-on fun activities. Provoking scientific curiosity and inspiring the artistic, it has proven a hit with people of all ages.

The workshops can also be commission by schools, holiday activity schemes and other organisations, and we are happy to customise an offer to your schedule and topical themes (e.g. chemistry, craft, maths, environmental responsibility or living well for less).
