Significant Seams’s range of activities is made possible by the generosity and community spirit of our many wonderful volunteers.

The shop, community space, and office we maintained in East London for over five years were run almost entirely by a team of 20 regular volunteers, and our activities and special projects there were by a further 50 volunteers.

On an ongoing basis, volunteers contribute to shaping new community projects, growing people’s understanding of social and personal challenges, making links across service providers and potential markets for our products, improving our services and teaching and sharing textile and craft skills and helping others have fun via making.

Even our Board of Directors serve in a voluntary capacity, carrying the responsibilities of governance, securing funding, and forward plans.

We now recruit volunteers on an issue or project basis, to ensure we have the capacity to live our values – of mutual support, fun, friendship, respect, and creativity.
