Announcing November Events at Significant Seams

We've got loads going on at Significant Seams in November, in addition to our weekly events. If an event is not yet listed on our eventbrite bookings page, bookings can be made in person at 131 or by phone (please note volunteers update this system for us. If you could help us with this task on a monthly basis, we'd love to hear from you at volunteer@significantseams.org.uk.)

Here's a round-up of what's captured our imagination for this month.

November 2013

Words Over Waltham Forest

Logo_FinalFrom 1-14 November, we'll be hosting special events at 131 Wood Street for the Words Over Waltham Forest Festival plus Alex Bell's “My Favourite Book” photo exhibition. Look out for more pop-up pillow installations across Waltham Forest, too.

And in celebration of this festival of all things literary, for the entire month, Significant Seams is offering a 20% discount on membership to the Stitch & Craft Library. Just in time for Christmas! If you can't decide which craft book to give, give several hundred…

logoWe've decided to support the Big Issue Foundation's Big Knitathon, which is on Saturday 16 November. We will be trying out new techniques and patterns while knitting six-inch squares (to help break a world record for the world's biggest hand-knitted blanket!). We'll be having special events through the month to go along with the Big Knit:

Big Knit workshop, 8 November, 4-6pm, £6
Big Knit preview, 15 November, 4-6pm, £6
Big Knit stitch-up, 22 November, 4-6pm & 29 November, 4-6pm

On Saturday the 16th, we'll be hosting a Knit-In all day, with free lessons from 1-3pm, and the launch of an exhibition by photographer Mark Burton. We'll be showing a range of work he has compiled while working with several charity projects which support the homeless and formerly homeless, including Crisis and Emmaus Lambeth. Waltham Forest Branches, a local homeless support organisation, is also supporting our activities.

If you can't make any of these events, we will happily receive and include your knitted squares or you can sponsor our participation with a donation. We have free booklets of six-inch square patterns available at Significant Seams–donations for the Big Issue Foundation gratefully received .
